The sweet spot for most teams is quarterly (3 months). Here’s why:
It’s long enough to make meaningful progress.
It’s short enough to adapt if priorities shift.
It aligns naturally with most company rhythms (Q1, Q2, etc.).
That said, you can set annual objectives with quarterly key results for a hybrid approach. Think of annual OKRs as the destination and quarterly ones as the checkpoints along the journey
